Corning to launch next gen display covers

Corning, a company most recently famous for the Gorilla Glass scratch resistant display covers that now come standard in many smart devices, has revealed that it is on the verge of launching its next-gen display cover, codenamed Project Phire, reports Tech blog CNET.

Gorilla Glass is “now the dominant player in hardened glass for mobile devices, fronting about 3 billion electronics, including Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4”, stated CNET.

CNET also quoted Corning’s President James Clappin making the following comments to an audience at a recent New York investor meeting: “We told you last year that sapphire was great for scratch performance but didn’t fare well when dropped. So, we created a product that offers the same superior damage resistance and drop performance of Gorilla Glass 4 with scratch resistance that approaches sapphire”.
