Sri Lanka Customs introduces mandatory scanning
Sri Lanka’s January 29, 2015, Interim Budget included a new mechanism whereby its Customs service will begin working on a 24-hours basis, instituting mandatory scanning of all containers from September 2015, says local business news website LBO.
The new scanning technology , to be installed at all entry points to the island is expected to raise an additional Rs. 50 billion in government revenues as a result.
“In the recent past, high slippage of ethanol, drugs and other high valued items had prevailed”, said Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, announcing this new measure in the preliminary reading of the new budget.
