HNB to introduce ‘Kiosk’ banking

One of Sri Lanka’s top banks, Hatton National Bank (HNB), has revealed that it plans to limit the opening of new branches in the future, instead favouring the enhanced utility, convenience and hours offered by self-service kiosks, says local broadsheet the Nation.

 

The Nation’s story also features a quote from HNB CEO Jonathan Alles, sourced from a local investor forum, that says, “Expansion of branch network is not going to be a major ambition going forward. We believe the next phase of banking sector growth is through provision of services via alternative banking channels, for example, mobile and internet. Hence going forward, we will be moving into Kiosk to complement our ‘brick and mortar’ presence which will also cut down the need for drastic capital funding”.
