SL aims to generate more IT related jobs for women
The government of Sri Lanka aims to implement a program with Microsoft to offer more IT related employment opportunities to women.
Speaking at the second Gender Intergenerational Dialogue organised by United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) program, Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando said this initiative will be announced by the Prime Minister in the near future.
“It is a fact that female employment in Sri Lanka is low specially in the IT sector and this program aims to increase it by getting more women involved in IT sector related employment,” he said.
According to him, women constitute the most number of the university dropouts in Sri Lanka – and therefore the government is planning to offer 10,000 vocational scholarships targeting woman. He also said that getting more youth to the IT industry is not difficult and the government will soon take measures to generate more IT related jobs especially targeting women.
